Hilt's Landing
Hilt’s Landing is a 200+ acre piece of property located in
Whitehall Township. It has been preserved in a natural state with
many 2 tracks accessible for hiking and cross country skiing. To
visit Hilt’s Landing take the Colby Street exit off of US -31
Expressway (if you turn west you will be on Colby Street driving
toward Whitehall/Montague; turn east and you will be on Holton
Whitehall Road). Take Holton Whitehall Road to N Durham. Turn
between the Best Western Hotel and Viking Tool. N Durham dead ends
at Hilt’s Landing. There is one 2 track open for driving that takes
you about a mile to the banks of the White River. Fishing is allowed
but there is no hunting on the property.
There are steps to the
river but the river is not handicapped accessible at this time.
There are no picnic or bathroom facilities, and campfire burning is
prohibited. Hilt’s Landing is the future home of the Hilt’s Landing
Park Heritage Trail. The Park will cover about 10 acres of the
property and will be a walking trail through Michigan’s early
history. Whitehall Township is dedicated to maintaining the property
in its natural state for future generations.
